OK, so I get what this is about mathematicly. What I don’t understand is why it should compete to the string theory. There’s nothing in string theory that stops the different stable vibrations the strings allow to fit into that E8 pattern mathematicly. Actually using this to “map” the different string vibrations may hold a key to explaining the strings “shape” in an abstract form, but that’s just me daydreaming. Am I overlooking something or are the two theories indeed compatible?

  2. this theory isnt easy to understand, i dont really like it shape etc , i like garret lisi ‘s attitude though, good video interesting idea

  3. Compare Brian Greene’s: Universe on a String Vs. Garrett Lisi’s E8. They like the word ‘beautiful’ because you boost your theory by endorsement from the pervasive aesthetic (We’ll call him Beautiful). Watson/Crick bypassed messing with a less beautiful but potentially true idea and guessed, and pressed on, to the ‘Beautiful’ DNA. THey knew they had it in the end because…..it was beautiful. You see-there’s absolutely no religion in science!!!!! BTW– String is ugly!

  4. My understanding is that this is now a case of E8 Vs. String Theory (presented here on Ted by the MIT guy). My understanding is that the String guys hate this and i’ve heard of some pretty base insults thrown Garrett’s way, The LHC will confirm the existence, in theory, of the Higgs but will also determine which of the two competing ideas stands. Garrett avoided the ‘Big Science’ establishment of University/Govt. complex and is a freelancer surfer dude. Watch the string guy & compare ideas.

  5. Keep in mind it’s still a theory. Like he said himself “This theory and others like it are long shots, one does a lot of hard working knowing that most of these ideas probably wont end up being true about nature. Thats what doing theoretical physics is like.” I don’t think we understand enough about the universe to have an all encompassing theory of everything… yet, at least… Nonetheless this theory is extremely complex and thought provoking. Who am I to say whether or not it’s true

  6. yeah… I rofl’d a few times XD

i liked his jokes. I think it was just late in the day or something.

  8. diomedes39 says:

Well, maybe he shouldn’t have put his theory in the same video as his alien pyramid landing ideas.

    But seriously, no it isn’t.

yea i couldnt focus when i kept hearing whistling nose hairs between each sentence…

The theory of everything it thats it must be its beautiful.
The theory of everything it must be its beautiful.

  11. Hello, just seen your “AntiGravity Physics Explained” video and it is very nice, I am conducting my research on a specific part of UFO’s field and wanted to ask you :
*is it OK to copy this video from you ?
*where do you know /understand that field ?

it’s more difficult listening to the speaker than to understand the subject of his talk. sounds like a kid in middle school giving a book report.

i didnt so much enjoy hearing his breathing after he says a sentence

It’s funny when non-funny guys try to be funny and fail. But not very.

    Great ideas, though!

lol why do plp have to throw religon in sciece when its a diffent type of religon and as u know its not a debate about god cause even now the theories do show intellegent design but 4 1s can we just let go of the jewish history and see what is there and just except that theres a god but he or she or it does not show its self to humans unless we find it

Actually I would love equations, but still great lecture.

looks a lot like sacred geometry…. well someone had to say it!!

  24. Ultrajack100 says:

@liquidminds exactly, meaning everything he is saying is true in theory
